Washing of the feet:
(The assembly seated prepares itself for the rite. The President, assisted by other responsibles, washes the feet of everyone. Then more basins, pitchers and towels are placed in the center of the assembly for those who wish to wash the feet of any others. It is not necessary to kiss the feet of the brothers, but one may opt to do so on his own decision. Meanwhile, the assembly sings appropriate songs).

Prayer of the Faithful:
(The President will introduce this part by asking everyone to speak out their intentions, while the assembly will support each intention with a common “LORD HEAR OUR PRAYER” at the end of the individual prayer). The President will end this part with the recitation, together with the others, of the Our Father…then the Kiss of Peace).

Proclamation of the Fast:

The President proclaims a Solemn Fast, exhorting the brothers to stay awake for the coming of the Lord. The fasting starts at three o’clock in the afternoon of Holy Thursday and lasts until communion of the Paschal Vigil. The President will tells the brothers that this is a Sacramental Fasting, which is different from the Penitential fasting, symbolizing that the Church is mourning because “Her bridegroom had been taken away.”

We abstain from all solid food, alcoholic beverages and from smoking cigarettes. Sick persons follow their doctor’s orders.

The children who will attend the Paschal Vigil, will also fast by abstaining from Saturday’s supper. They will not have solid food after Saturday’s midday lunch. Milk or other drinks for children will be acceptable.
